Grease Raw Materials
Essential Building Blocks for High-Performance Grease Manufacturing
Grease performance depends on the quality and compatibility of its raw materials. From base oils and thickeners to performance additives, every component plays a critical role in determining lubrication efficiency, mechanical stability, water resistance, load-carrying capacity, and service life.
AB Petrochem supplies a comprehensive range of grease raw materials to help manufacturers formulate reliable greases for automotive, industrial, marine, mining, and heavy-duty applications.
What Are Grease Raw Materials?
Grease is a semi-solid lubricant produced by combining three primary components:
- Base Oils
- Thickeners
- Performance Additives
Together, these materials create a lubricating structure capable of protecting equipment operating under high loads, extreme temperatures, moisture exposure, and challenging environments.
These additives are particularly important in heavy-duty diesel engine oils, marine lubricants, gas engine oils, and industrial lubricant formulations where acid control is crucial.
Major Components of Grease
Base oils form the lubricating fluid portion of grease and typically account for 70-95% of the formulation.
Available Types:
- Mineral Base Oils
- Group II Base Oils
- Group III Base Oils
- Synthetic Base Oils
- Polyalphaolefin (PAO)
- Ester-Based Oils

Grease typically consists of base oils, thickeners, and performance additives that work together to provide lubrication and equipment protection.
A thickener creates the grease structure and retains the base oil, allowing controlled release during operation.
Lithium-based greases offer excellent water resistance, mechanical stability, and high-temperature performance, making them suitable for a wide range of applications.
